4 Ways On How Performing & Creative Arts Can Boost Your Child's Academic Potential And Beyond.

Writer: marie Myriemarie Myrie

With so many creatives and arts organisations affected by government funding cuts and the aftermath of the lockdown - theatre and other crafts alike have suffered as a consequence in the recent years. Because of this, access to the arts, especially from more deprived areas in the UK, decreased - which in return, limited the creative options that young people have.

The better news, is that we are now seeing strong statistics on how well the arts can support children and young people, not just academically but with significant and transferrable life skills. With this breakthrough and incredible statistics, the government have now had a change of direction with funding as they have chosen to recognise the incredible impact that the arts has on supporting young people and children at such a crucial stage in their lives

Here are our 4 reasons;

Communication - Our world is simply built through communication, it's one of the most important skills one can master- not only is it a means to express ourselves, it is completely transformative to everything we do. In drama, we teach many different skills of commuication - verbally, physically, emotionally, with peers, individually & more. Children have the best gift of expression and at Centrestage we hone that and nurture it in the best way we can so that they will have these tools for life.

Self-confidence - performing arts creates a safe space for young people and children to be able to express themselves and use their voices confidently through skills such as voice work, breathing & group participation.

Resillience - Performing helps young people and children to face their fears, beleive us - it's not easy standing on stage (even experienced artists get nevous or shy or embarressed) but with practice, the arts helps us to learn how to push through our fears and embrace any insecurities or inexperience that we may have.

Self awareness & Empathy - We live in a vibrant world full of different characters and scenarios and so fourth and the arts allows us to look into those stories and backgrounds with perspective. The arts also allows us to express and portray those stories, characters & life itself in our own way and to gain a better understanding of the world in which we live.

At Centrestage, our classes run every Tuesday from 30th April, 6pm. You can book your FREE trial here.
